Photo tips for best results
- Background: Use a neutral matte surface that contrasts with the card edge. Black or white can both work; avoid saturated colored backgrounds.
- Lighting: Even, indirect light works best. Avoid direct flash; it causes glare on holo and foil cards that hides scratches.
- Angle: Shoot directly overhead. Mild keystoning is corrected automatically, but steep angles reduce output quality.
- Distance: Fill the frame; the card should occupy most of the photo. Cropping in-camera reduces the pixel budget available for defect detection.
- Focus: Tap to focus on the card surface before shooting. Blur is the most common cause of missed defects.
- Holo/foil cards: Diffuse light (overcast window, shade, or a softbox) prevents the prismatic surface from blooming and obscuring surface wear.
